KIC has sponsored and organized various events since since 2001.  The following are the benchmarks of its accomplishments and success stories:

• October 2001 - Kenyans in the Metropolitan area held a reception party for the incoming Ambassador to the US, His Excellency Dr. Nzibo.

• May 2002 - KIC is officially founded and registered in Washington D.C.

• June 2002 - Raised a total of USD $5,020.00 in support of the funeral arrangements for the late Martin Maingi who passed away on April 14, 2002, Salem, in Massachusetts.

• July 13, 2002 - Fresh Hopes for Maingi's Burial at Home
  
  August 2002 - summer picnic organized in which more than 300 Kenyans attended. 

• August 2003 - summer picnic organized in which more than 200 Kenyans attended.

• March 2004 - Organized a farewell party for His Excellency, Ambassador Dr. Nzibo.  During this event Ms. Rhoda Kirera was awarded with the best student achievement award.  Kenyan organizations in the Metro Area were well represented.

• July 2004 – Organized a fund-raising event in an effort to free Mr. Hemingway Saisi of Jersey City, New Jersey, who was imprisoned and is awaiting trial for a murder case.  A total of $5430.00 was raised.

• August 2004 – Annual Summer Festival event.  In attendance was the Assistant Ambassador, Mr. Tom Amollo and other Kenya Embassy officials. Several activities took place including the following:

  • Friday August 13 (6PM): Kenyan documentary, Movie & Dance Night at Safari D.C., 4306 Georgia Avenue NW, Washington DC 20011

  • Saturday August 14 (11AM): Picnic Event at Wheaton Forest Local Park, 1700 University Blvd., Wheaton, MD 20906.

  • Sunday August 15 (11AM): Brunch at Safari Restaurant D.C., 4306 Georgia Avenue NW, Washington DC 20011.

• January 2005 - Organized the KCPE fund-raising event (ongoing).  KIC orchestrated a fund raising effort to sponsor bright but poor KCPE students to to pursue high school education. Read more...
